Japanese web novels in English

What we store

This page lists everything, in plain terms. If something here is not clear, tell us and we will rewrite it.

On your device

WhatWhyHow long
yw_sid Counts how many people opened each chapter. A random number, not a name. 30 days
yw_utm_… Remembers which link brought you here, so we can tell which ones work. 30 days
yw_consent Remembers the choice you made about the two above. 180 days
Theme, text size, reading position Keeps the reader the way you set it, and brings you back to where you stopped. Stored in your browser only. Never sent to us. Until you clear your browser data

In the EU, the EEA and the UK we ask before setting the first two. Until you choose, they are not set and nothing is counted. Reading works either way.

On our servers

For each chapter opened we record the random number above, which chapter, the country the request came from, whether the browser looked like a phone or a desktop, and the site that linked to you. We do not store your IP address or your browser's user agent. We keep no name, no email and no account for readers, because there are no reader accounts.

Authors who apply to publish give us an email address. It is used only to send the invitation link, is stored encrypted, and is deleted automatically after 30 days.

Who else sees it

Nobody. There is no advertising network, no analytics provider and no tracking across other sites. The country lookup runs on our own server from a table shipped with the site, so your address is not sent anywhere.

The site runs on Google Cloud Run and Firestore in Tokyo, which is where the records sit.

Asking us to delete it

Clearing your browser data removes everything on your side. For the server-side records, You can reach us at yomiwatari.test@gmail.com. The random number in yw_sid is the only way to find them, so please include it if you still have it.
