(Ryo, Yuki, and Rin as children, running through the hills on a hot summer day.)
Ryo: "Wait up, sis!"
Yuki: "Ha ha, come on, over here!"
Ryo: "Rin, say something too!"
Rin: "Ugh, do I have to..."
Rin: "I can't do this anymore..."
Ryo: "I can't either..."
Yuki: "Aw, come on, don't be such babies."
Ryo (breathless): "Sis, you're too fast!"
Yuki: "You're a boy, aren't you?"
Ryo: "But..."
Yuki: "Come on, come on."
Ryo and Rin: "Stop pulling us!"
Yuki: "Fine, fine. Okay."
Rin: "It's so hot..."
Ryo: "Let's just go back."
Yuki: "Not yet — we haven't found one."
Ryo: "But you said we were looking for beetles, and all you've done is run around!"
Yuki: "Well, I got bored."
Ryo: "Let's go home and play video games. In a room with the AC on."
Rin: "Yeah, I like that idea better."
Yuki: "Fine, I guess."

(Rin bursts into Ryo's room, shouting.)
Rin: "Get up!!!"
Ryo: "Ugh, so loud... Oh, it's just you, Rin."
Rin: "I came all the way here to wake you up, so you'd better be grateful."
Ryo: "Come back wearing a maid outfit."
Rin: "No way."
Ryo: "And here I was having such a nice dream about a cute maid waiting on me..."
(Ryo glances over at Rin.)
Ryo: "Sigh..."
Rin: "Hey, what's with that sigh?!"
Ryo: "Nothing, really... Wait, what time is it?"
Rin: "Oh!"
Ryo: "Crap... gotta get dressed. And put away my futon... huh?"
Rin: "What?"
Ryo: "What day is it today?"
Rin: "It's Thursday... why?"
Ryo: "It's summer break, right? There shouldn't be any classes..."
Ryo: "Summer school's just for you, isn't it?"
Rin: "No, you're in it too."
Ryo: "Huh?"
Rin: "It's your fault I got sick and ended up like this!"
Ryo: "No way, that's because you lost at that game and secretly practiced all night..."
Rin: "Never mind that! Now get up!"

(Rin slams the door shut and storms out.)
Ryo: "She's gone... Guess I feel kinda bad. Might as well bring her a lunch at least..."

(SFX: the school bell chimes.)
(Rin and Tomoka sit at neighboring desks in the classroom.)
Tomoka: "Ugh, I'm so~ tired~... Hey, hey! We're finally free from hell, so after this~"
Rin: "You've got club practice today, right?"
Tomoka: "Ugh... oh right. I'm already so~ tired~"
Rin: "But you brought your swimsuit."
Tomoka: "I totally forgot in all the freedom~ I've got no motivation~ Come on~ let's skip it today~ The tournament's still forever away, right?"
(Tomoka shakes Rin back and forth.)
Rin: "No way! We're already weak as it is, we have to practice!"
Tomoka: "Rin-chan!"
Rin: "What?!"
Tomoka: "This year's our last chance!"
Rin: "Last chance for what?"
Tomoka: "For our fleeting youth! Next year we've got exams! You know, for that guy you're after."
Rin: "It's not like I care about him or anything... Anyway! Practice! Come on, let's go eat lunch."

Rin: "Still, it's kind of annoying that you're actually good at cooking."
Ryo: "Well, I don't wanna eat any biological weapons..."
Rin: "Hm?"
Ryo: "N-nothing at all."
Rin: "Good."
Ryo: "..."
Rin: "..."
Ryo: "Well, I'm off to club practice."
Rin: "About when will you be done...?"
Ryo: "Hmm... I wanna make it to the Kokonokadoo sale in time today."
Rin: "What are you, a housewife?"
Ryo: "I've been living alone a long time. Why?"
Rin: "No reason. It's not like I was thinking of tagging along to help you shop or anything!"

(A shadowy figure appears behind Rin and Ryo.)

Rin: "Secret."

Ryo: "Says the girl who put curry powder in chocolate as a 'secret ingredient.'"
Rin: "I would never do that."
Ryo: "Is that so... Ahh, I wish there was a maid out there somewhere who could actually cook..."
(Maria overtakes them and turns to face them.)
Maria: "Nice to meet you, Master. I am the maid, Maria."
Ryo: "..."
Rin: "..."
Maria: "..."
Ryo: "Um... 'Master'... me?"
Maria: "Yes. Master is Master. Nice to meet you, Master. I am Maria."
Rin: "Wait just a second. Who are you?"
Maria: "Hmm? I am Maria...?"
Rin: "No, that's not what I meant."
Ryo: "Being suddenly called 'Master'... this has to be a dream... no, I mean, this is kind of a problem..."
Maria: "Are you abandoning me...?"

Child A: "Mommy, what's that?"

(Ryo grabs both their hands and runs.)
